Easily export your data from Snugg Pro

← Back to blog

It's easy to get your data out of Snugg Pro for use in other software or to be be displayed in other ways.

Snugg Pro offers three ways to do this:

  1. A simple CSV export

  2. HPXML (Home Performance XML) export

  3. PDF output - Download sample report

Each of the above formats have their strengths and limitations...

CSV files

Files that use the Comma Separated Values format (CSV) are great for getting all of the data out of Snugg Pro for every job you've ever created. Depending on your user privileges, you'll have access to just your own jobs, your whole company's jobs, or your whole program's jobs. Those same privileges are applied in the CSV export.

A CSV file from Snugg Pro will contain every single field of data that is captured and/or generated in Snugg Pro, so the file can be pretty large. The column headers (field names) will be very similar to the names of fields in Snugg Pro with the addition of the section title to each field name. This is great if you're building an import function for your own buisness such as to a CRM or Quickbooks, or simply want to massage the data in an Excel spreadsheet. However, a CSV is a flat file, which means it doesn't easily expand or contract based on what data is populated in it. Learn how to export data from Snugg Pro here.

HPXML - Home Performance XML

HPXML is a special data standard created by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and the Home Performance Coalition. This data standard was created so that all software vendors could trade data between themselves and not worry about mapping lots of different field names that might not translate properly. The data standard has its own dictionary that every software vendor agrees to use. It's also extensible, which means that it's not a flat data file like a CSV, but one that expands and contracts with the amount of data that exists about the home. The standard is agreed upon by the HPXML working group and all new additions or updates are voted on by the group. Snugg Pro allows you export individual jobs in the HPXML format. Certain utility and government based energy efficiency programs require software vendors to export their data in the HPXML format. This alows a seamless transfer of information out of the contractors job into the programs own tracking and management system. Learn more about the HPXML export function in Snugg Pro here.

PDF Reports

Lastly, it's really easy to generate a PDF report from Snugg Pro. Download a sample PDF report here. Typically, this PDF is used as a way to display your findings about the home to a homeowner as well as propose various improvements. But you can also create special PDF reports that are geared towards subcontractors or quality control for certain programs that don't support the HPXML standard.

The PDF report lets you print official DOE's Home Energy Scores directly within Snugg Pro. The PDF report is the only format where notes and photos can be output from Snugg Pro. Learn about exporting a PDF from Snugg Pro here.
